Propagation of Wave

If we drop a metal things , it makes a noise. Again, by hit a table of wood we can make a noise. We can see a vibration makes a waves or a sound. Again, if the vibration stopped,  the wave or noise will stop. If we catch a vibrative things, the vibration and the noise both will stop.

When we speak, the sound delivered as a wave in the air medium.  So we can decide, the sound is makes by vibration. Noise waves the medium and  the vibration delivered as a wave. Then a wave started. The vibrative medium is the Source of the sound.

If we throw a stone in a pond, it makes a wave. The wave transferred atom to atom and it  spread to all over the pond. But no water grain has moved from its own place by this wave. It only transferred the energy from atom to atom.

So we can say, The energy made by the stone drop in the water is transferred in all over the pond as a wave.
